lol I have a new job and had to go to work monday after the accident with the fattest swollen toe, Thx for the well wishes. I have a new born baby in the house and I have been rethinking my need for the harley to be my daily commuter. Just a few inches to the right and it would have been a whole different story. I have liability on the bike and am talking with the ins company to see if its covered under the under/no insurance coverage i have on it. That would be nice, if not I will be saving my pennies for awhile

They are legal in all states, by Federal law, and the law also prohibits states from forbidding them. They are also legal in all of Canada.

Some law enforcement officers may not know about this. After all, I can imagine that it's almost impossible for them to stay on top of every law on the books. I've never had a problem in the three years I've been using them, but if you're worried about it, you could carry a copy of the law. http://www.kriss.com/pdf/modulator-headlamp.pdf

Also keep this in mind...in the old days, LOL, folks used to give you the headlights to let you know they would let you turn in front if them...there were a couple of entries here where a couple folks had vehicles pull out in front of them because they mistook the modulating lights for the ok to turn flashing headlights...just a thought...
Otherwise, any reasonable ideas to keep the idiot cages from running you over is good with me...
I have been riding over forty years. Back in the old days, near death experiences from vehicles used to be rare or occasional...now it seems it's a weekly event...not funny...
Ride safe...

In many hours of reading about them, I've read a few posts where people talked about "someone" having this happen, but next-to-nothing like that from anyone actually using (or claiming to use) the modulators. It's pretty hard to mistake continuous flashing, 3 times per second, for a "permission" signal, if many drivers today even know what that is. My wife and I (separate bikes) have certainly never had it happen.

We may have had a couple of cars pull over though. Don't know for sure, didn't stop and ask them why they pulled over. If it was because of the lights, they sure as heck noticed us!

Glad you were able to walk away, heal fast!

Short sighted on the insurance, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Do you remember the make and model of the car? Color? My *** would be sitting at the intersection for a few days looking for the guy. There has to be damage to his car. Hit the local body shops and see if that make and model is in for repair.

If it makes you feel any better...

This is my bike back when I crashed it in 2009. luckily I had an engine guard on which saved my tank and rear tin.
It will be much less expensive to get a set of tins off eBay or Craigslist and painted to match. Some painters now have the 2008 formula down so you can't even tell the difference. True it won't be H-D original, but Harley will charge you a premium for the anniversary tins; they'll want your old tins and badges back, plus require your vin# for new one, and finally; it will take them forEVER and a day to get them to you. H-D Japan wanted over 6 bills for just a new matching front fender. That wasn't happnin' so I imported it myself from the US for half the price + shipping (still expensive), but it took several months to get it.

Glad you walked away from it. I also come out completely unscathed, and it did scare the crap out of me, but I did't let having young'uns at home scare me away from getting the bike repaired and getting back to riding as much as possible. It's your choice, of course, but you may regret it later. Just don't make any decisions until the original shock of the accident has worn off...take some time to think it over. I ride to work almost every day and I'm always happier and more energetic on the days I ride...

Happy your alive and well. Better to show up to the new job with a swollen toe and cracked rib on a Monday than not at all. I agree with all the other posters, I'd watch that intersection and knock on some doors in that neighborhood and ask around if anybody has any ideas who this POS might be. It looks like your in the Dallas Tx metro area with a lot of people, but you might be surprised, people travel the same routes a lot. There is a good chance he might live nearby, and some of his neighbors might recognize the description. You could also study google maps of the specific area for alternate routes, as the POS may fear you/police may be watching that particular spot, and drive a different route for a while until things cool off. Also see if your insurance company can identify any claims from a similar car with similar damage. They may be willing to talk with other companies for you.

Default Be careful with your insurance company

Hope you have an insurance company that will take care of you. Make sure they pay for all new parts. I got screwed by Progressive. Same thing happened to me on 13 Sep 14. HD collision center in Rocklin CA put damaged parts back on my bike. Progressive adjuster missed this. It's back in the shop as of now getting re-repaired. I was run over by a gal that run a red light turning left in front of me. I either had to lay the bike down in front of her or fly through her windshield so I laid it down and she run over the front of my bike and dragged me under her car for 15 feet before she stopped. I rolled out from under her car, barely stood up and she took off. Luckily alot of folks saw everything and two cars chased after her and blocked her in. She was a 20 year old hispanic with no driver's license, no insurance and no verifiable identification. Cops cited her for making a left without yielding to oncoming traffic.
