Hope you have an insurance company that will take care of you. Make sure they pay for all new parts. I got screwed by Progressive. Same thing happened to me on 13 Sep 14. HD collision center in Rocklin CA put damaged parts back on my bike. Progressive adjuster missed this. It's back in the shop as of now getting re-repaired. I was run over by a gal that run a red light turning left in front of me. I either had to lay the bike down in front of her or fly through her windshield so I laid it down and she run over the front of my bike and dragged me under her car for 15 feet before she stopped. I rolled out from under her car, barely stood up and she took off. Luckily alot of folks saw everything and two cars chased after her and blocked her in. She was a 20 year old hispanic with no driver's license, no insurance and no verifiable identification. Cops cited her for making a left without yielding to oncoming traffic.
This REALLY BOILS MY BLOOD. And I don't doubt it. Where I live the cops monitor the bars very closely...except one..the one all the mexicans hang out at, everyone of them illegal, driving, swerving, throwing beer bottles out of their car windows, in front of everyone. Cops won't pull them over to meet their DWI quota. Our worthless politicians want to give favoritism and free gifts to everyone except the ones paying the bills...Unreal..they don't "have the resources" to secure the border. But they sure have plenty of money for the ATF and DEA to conduct a "war on drugs".....Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread, you just hit a nerve with that one. Glad your still here to tell the story.
Had an interesting day today, the bike is at the dealer and the body shop guy wrote an estimate up for 9k in repairs My insurance company is going to cover it under the un/under insured policy he wrote up everything from the handle bars to my tail light. The profit margin on Harley tins is astounding 2k for a tank and another 1k for the rear fender. So now im worried about them trying to total it out, looks to me its very close to the 70-80% value range. We had lots of ice and stupid drivers this week so the adjuster hasnt went out to look at the bike yet
Since the bike was sold new there at the dealer they looked up the VIN and my buddies name popped right up and the stage 1 air cleaner, pipes and tuner install popped up to pretty neat to find out I have a power commander 3 on the bike the whole time and didnt know it
side note from that is Martin Bros dosent make mass produced pipes anymore so I oped for Vance and Hines big shots instead
This is my bike back when I crashed it in 2009. luckily I had an engine guard on which saved my tank and rear tin.
It will be much less expensive to get a set of tins off eBay or Craigslist and painted to match. Some painters now have the 2008 formula down so you can't even tell the difference. True it won't be H-D original, but Harley will charge you a premium for the anniversary tins; they'll want your old tins and badges back, plus require your vin# for new one, and finally; it will take them forEVER and a day to get them to you. H-D Japan wanted over 6 bills for just a new matching front fender. That wasn't happnin' so I imported it myself from the US for half the price + shipping (still expensive), but it took several months to get it.
Glad you walked away from it. I also come out completely unscathed, and it did scare the crap out of me, but I did't let having young'uns at home scare me away from getting the bike repaired and getting back to riding as much as possible. It's your choice, of course, but you may regret it later. Just don't make any decisions until the original shock of the accident has worn off...take some time to think it over. I ride to work almost every day and I'm always happier and more energetic on the days I ride...
Wow I have no idea how you walked away from that one, dealer told me a month on the tins from Harley, what a rip off 2k for a tank and 1k for the fender if insurance wasnt covering it I would be on ebay all day. I am for sure not scared away from my back its been a few weeks now and im so ready to be back on it. heart did skip a few beats over it tho

Dayum! The price has gone WAY up since 2009...
In my case, I wiped out and hit a pole, so I had to foot the bill myself. I need to protect these tins at all costs. My original rear fender is wrapped in a blanket and stored in a shed and I have an engine guard, but I've been thinking of losing that. Hmmm...

That's how it is with some of the special "factory" paints. In my case, the new replacement parts had to be sent to the paint shop in Colorado which originally did the painting for Harley. The bike didn't look all that bad, but the insurance company ended up totaling it. I looked into purchasing it from the insurance company, but the price they expected to get at auction was so high, that it didn't seem worth it to me, especially since it would have ended up with a salvage title.

LOL I told my insurance guy not to total it, its all cosmetic. He told me that the 80% rule is not a hard and fast rule they go above and below it depending on the situation. Now I have to wait on the adjuster to look at it and make his call on it. It will be a few days since we have ice here.
looks like I might have a happy ending to this story, insurance adjuster asked if I would skip seat replacment and air cleaner replacment in order to not total it. I jumped all over that now the repair bill is down to $8300 and I am getting 14" apes and V&H pipes. I am still in sticker shock over how much profit Harley is making on painted parts. I told the dealer to get me the Big Shots but I keep looking at the Big Radius 2 in to 1 cant decide. have lots of time to think about it since it takes a month to get the paint done. Im already a month in to this
I'm also interested in this "modulating" headlight? How does it work if your headlight is already on? Does it only modulate when you 1st turn it on? Is there a button you hit to make it modulate? I have similar on my rear brake light and rear blinkers. I got tired of hearing screeching tires coming up behind me when I'm sitting at a red light. I am interested and open to try anything that increases my chances of getting myself and my bike home and in one piece.

Depends on the module. Looks like this one toggles modulation on/off by switching headlight high/low a couple times in one second. I think there's another one out there that modulates in high beam during the day (based on it's ambient light sensor) and stays normal in low beam.
My father started running a modulator on his Kawi 750 triple in the mid '70s after a woman turned left in front of him at an intersection. He swears it helped. Even though I suspect it may be less effective now than it was in the mid '90s when he was last riding (more distractions to drivers now with phones/texting) I'm planning on putting one on my bike. I'm certainly never going to depend on it to stop someone turning in front of me, but if it gets one person's attention, it's worth it. I don't see how it can hurt...
