Default Original connector dis-assembly.

Hi All

i thought to post this as it might help somebody - as its smth that i encountered myself pulling some electrical parts from my bike. often you will find that you cant pull the connector through some hole. and have to cut the wire - and re-solder, etc

for some connector type style , what are hard to get here anyway - there is a simple procedure to pull the pins out , and you can pull the wire and re-connect the pins as they were.

here i took the connectors from my indicators as an example.

1.

as said here is the example - i needed to get this one of to pull the wire through my handlebars.

2.

As above open the connector up to get to the pins,on most connectors you have to pull the "clips" on the side out and you can open the cover holding the pins down.

1.pull the wires "back" so the "bend" parts of the pins are exposed
2.now take a thin needle and place this in the middle where the 2 "bend" parts meet to hold the wire - here the needle is placed on the 2nd purple wire -could not get it really sharp in the pic..
3.now push the needle all the way down between the plastic body and the metal of the pin - if you look on the bottom side of the connector you will see the needle pin. this will have pushed the part of the pin in that slots into the body

4. pull the wire and the needle out simultaneously, and voila out is the pin
5. to reassemble just stick the pin back the right way round and it will click right back into place. - plug and play..

some tips do; it will take a little effort now and then - but with a little patience you will get them all out no problems - do wear some safety glasses; you cant use a thick needle , and they obviously will break if you push to hard. if a part of the needle gets stuck no probs just take a new needle and do the same trick and pin will come out and... yes that is a part of a needle on the picture also ...

hope this might help.

Good write up!

Once you have done this once, it gets easier every time. I use a paper clip myself.

My advice: Take a picture or draw a diagram of the connector orientation, wire placement and wire color. I have seen many posts of guys asking what wire goes where or why does my left blinker blink when I push the right blinker button.

there is a tool you can get for around 10 bucks at most auto parts store , think lisle make it , that has actual posts to slide over and release the locks on the different connectors, paper clips and pins work but have found this makes it quicker and a lot easier.
