When I ran the stock road glide seat, I found a vendor that sells just seat covers that you can install yourself and save a little coin in the process. Perhaps they make other model's seats too.
I always thought that stock seats were crap and that you needed to get someone else's seat to get good quality. I have a sundowner seat that I use for two up riding but I had someone insert a waffle gel section in the seat. I still wasn't that happy with it but it certainly was better than stock.
Quite by accident I ended up with HD's 'custom' seat for my bike (the one with the flame stitching) and leather instead of vinyl (I thought the stock would be leather at that price when I bought the bike). The difference between the custom seat and the stock seat is incredible... and of course the custom seat retails for twice as much. I can ride the custom seat for hours without resting my butt.
If you are going to go the rehab route then I strongly recommend that you invest in better quality foam padding as well.
