I have an 07 heritage softail classic that runs and purrs beautifully. But, after say an hour or so, at idle it starts to ping like it's low on oil. I give it some gas and the pinging stops. After I take off it stops. Only at idle or downshifting or coasting does it ping. Then, it will stop pinging all together. Anyone know a cause of have had to deal with this issue? Or, is it a harley thing to ping when hot?

 

Most pinging happens when under load. Have you taken a peek in the plug holes to see how much carbon build-up is on the pistons?

Hydraulic lifter? If its not getting enough oil or a little debris in it it can cause this. What weight oil are you using and what are the temps where you are riding.

 

Assuming you're running premium fuel?

 

Yes, premium and seafoam every 3 or 4 fill ups.
