Default 1984 Electrical problems

I've had motorcycles in the past but this is my first harley. it was inherited from my uncle and it's having a battery problem. I went to start the bike after being sat for 8 months and the electric start did nothing. Now this bike is equipped with the kick as well so i tried using that and after about 10ish minutes it didn't go. The next day i replaced the battery and spark plugs and it fired right up using the electric start. 2 hours after riding on the highway home i hit a red light and the bike dies on me in the intersection. Batter reads 3V, so its obviously not charging or it has a draw but i could use some help with this one thanks.

Sound like it may be your charging system. Head over to the evo section and check the diagnosing your charging system sticky
