I have a 2005 Softail Nightrain. Twin cam 88 engine mild cams pipes and hypercharger breather. Bike has ran great for almost 32000 miles in the ten years i have been riding it. Middle of may i was on a run for a buddy and we got caught in a hell of a downpoor. Ending the ride was sunshine and dryness along with warm weather. The bike would start up just fine, and as i would try to make it move under its own power it would die. I thought it would just be from being water logged. Two weeks later i get it out and once it gets warm it did the same thing. I took breather assembly apart cleaning everything, recharged kn filter and took two days doing that. Put it all back together and it actually made it worse. I am going to try and unhook battery for a few minuts and clean my timing positioning sensor. If anyone has any other tips or thoughts please let me know.
Also after the bike would finally start moving it would run fine.

Will it drive if you rev it high to take off? If so and you get it moving does it stumble and backfire and run shitty? I had a similar issue, started fine and seemed to idle fine but under any load it would stall or run like **** if I got it moving and gave it throttle.
It was a simple fix, loose plug wire.
If the symptoms sound the same, Id look at the electrical. Often times something will fine until under load and then the symptoms show. Cheap replacements are plugs and wires, check the coil with a multimeter and clean all electrical connections and apply dielectric grease. Check the grounds too, battery to frame and engine to frame.
It all depends. I tried something small last night and road with no effect. Another issue arose which started to get my mind thinking. My start button would not work at first and my fuel light on the dash did not come on at first when i turned the ignition on. I have apes on my bike with internal wiring. I am starting to wonder if I have a break in the wiring somewhere causing it to trigger the off position of the off run button. If that does not work I will definitely take your advice on looking into the entire ignition and firing system and appreciate your input.
The issue is fixed. I replaced all the wiring within the handlebars from controls to under the tank. I found a few breaks in the wires but soldered all connections up and it got rid of the issues. It was causing the off switch to occasionally shut off the bike. Issue is fixed and thank you for all the ideas.
