Default Wheels

Hey guys, before i upset a few people or sound dumb, know that I am new to riding bikes.
I have had my fat boy low for almost a year now & I have done a few stage 1 upgrades.
I was wanting to upgrade my wheels next but i wanted to know if I went from a stock Harley rim to a 18"x4.25" on the rear & a 21"x3.125" or 21"x3.25" on the front if my ride will be a rougher?
Also, is it wise not to be so close to the same tire width on both tires? For example 4.25" on the rear & 4" on the front?
Thanks.

I think you would need an 18x5.50in the rear to run the 200mm tire. 21 on the front will definitely ride harsher than an 18 would. I think a 19" on the front would be a good look and would be a little friendlier ride than the 21". I was thinking of the same combo,18x5.5 on the rear and 19x3.5 on the front. Check out the hogpro website, softail pictures and it will give you an idea of how it would look without spending a penny.

You are correct to run a 200mm rear you will need a 18x5.5, also the front will need to be 21x3.25 or 21 x3.5 in order to run a 120/70x21 this my current set up. Rougher ride? I have not had an issue with a rougher ride but I do have a shotgun and ricors up front...Get your wheels from hogpro top notch people!!

This question varies for each person. I ran a 21" on the softail and did not find it to ride any rougher. I run a 21" on bagger and find it to ride no rougher. For your rear you can do a 17x6.25 or an 18x5.5 with the respective size tires. 200/55/17 or 200/18. The bigger wheel you get, the lower profile the tire is going to be.

Generally, more sidewall profile on a tire there is the smoother the ride however a lot of this has to do with other specifics as to how a bike is set up. I always change fork springs and rear shocks as I find the stock ride far to mushy on all stock Harley's. I prefer performance to a mushy soft ride on any bike. This all has to with how and where you ride.

Feel free to call us with questions. We are here to help and wheels is our main business.
Here's my old softial. Sold it a while back.

I just installed a 21" on my Heritage and don't find any issue with the ride. Still comfortable and looks good…..
