Default nut welded on rear fender for seat broke off

Help! The nut thats welded to the rear fender that holds the rear of the seat broke off. I tried a well nut but that does not seem to tighten down enough. Do I have to take off the rear fender, have some one weld it back on and repaint the fender? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks............

Are you sure the nut was welded?
My Heritage seat nut plate had a "C" clip that held it in place.
The nut plate is "keyed" so that it doesn't turn when you screw the seat down.

If the nut plate fell down and didn't hit the floor and you haven't ridden the bike it's probably sitting on top of your tire.
I hear you can access the area from the ECM area however what I did when mine dropped down was lower a long string through the hole in the fender then through the nut.

I then put a "tape" ball on the string and pulled the string and nut up through the fender.

I then slid a rubber O-ring down the string and over the nut.
Once the nut was secured I lowered the string through the fender.

The O-ring holds the nut when I take the seat off but I always now put the screw back on after the seat comes off just to make sure I don't accidently push the nut through.

If you've lost the nut, you'll likely need to get one from the Dealer.

If the nut was welded then likely you'll need to have it re-welded.

Should be retained with a c-clip. Couple bucks at the dealership. Part #16

He has a 1993 Heritage classic. It may have been welded?

Yes you would need to take the fender off to Weld it and it would probably screw up your paint. You could always go get a new screw and a nylock nut and be done with it. Of course you would need a washer to for the underside

Thanks for all your information ! Tom84FXST! I ordered the bolt and screw from Moto. This seemed to be the best looking as the nut and bolt are chrome. I appreciate all the help. I'll post a photo of the application.

This product worked great! Easy to install. Need a long bolt and two nuts to lock the base while tightening the base. If you use just the screw that comes with it, you will back the lock nut off trying to remove the screw. Thanks again!
