Night Train Mirrors
ORIGINAL: deadeye
Before my Train was delivered, I was sure I wanted to change the bars right away. But, I'm starting to get used to the drag bars and I'm going to keep them for a while. However, the stock mirrors on the bike are useless. All I can see is my arms and shoulders. I'm 6'2 / 180lbs, so its not a case of ME being too wide. I ride in traffic all the time so good mirrors are required. The new HD split vision mirrors look like they would work but are pricey.
What do you train owners use for mirrors?

The new HD split vision mirrorscertainly seem like they'd providean unbeatable view, but I don't like the way they look.
I put Carlini clean sweep bars on my FXST. I kept the stock mirrors on there. I have the same problem. I have to move my arm to the side to see out of my mirror. I hate it. Also, at certain speeds the vibration in the mirrors make them pretty much useless.
I run the stock mirrors and I'm 6'2 240...
If I want to see who is directly behind me on a bike, then I have to drop my arm and look. If I want to see a car that is behind me, I don't have any trouble.. but I don't ride in the middle of the lane... I ride on the side nearest the emergency shoulder on the interstate, or the center tire track on a two lane road.
I have them set so that I can see cars in the adjacent lane on each side.

Thanks for the detailsnitetrain. I've seen the Buffalo bars (by Drag Specialties, I think) in the Dennis Kirk catalog. I'm just too short at 5' 7", (vertically challenged, I'd say) to be comfortable withthe stock drag bars - justfeels liking I'm reaching out too far. Thanks again.
