OK I have a question for you Harley professionals.
I never checked since the day I bought my bike... Then for some reason I did today... Both of my license plate bulbs were out... So I headed to the nearest automotive store to pick a couple up, came home installed them and they now work fine (I only mention this, because this is the only thing I did).
Went out riding... Then noticed when I turn the bike on and start it, the flashers would flash 3 times, and they key light and engine light would come back on for a few seconds.
Now the bike starts right up Everytime... Runs beautifully, no problems, on a normal basis when I turn the key on the engine light, alarm light and oil light come on for about 2 seconds then shut off. Now when I turn it on the oil light, alarm light, and engine light come on as they should, then they all shut out... Then the flashers flash 3 times and the alarm light and engine light come back on for a second then shut back off(they do not come back on or flash after the initial time).
Like I said the bike runs as it should, no issues, is this something that I should worry about? Would this have anything to do with me replacing the license plate lights? Thank you
*Update * as I was typing this I was messing around with turning the key off and on... The flashers have stopped flashing(for now) but the alarm light and engine come back on for a few seconds.... Any ideas?
Btw. The bike is a 2002 softail deuce fuel injected
Unfortunately I'm no help but for what its worth, my 02 Heritage is doing something very similar since I changed my turn signals to LED. I did the Kuyakyn harness adapter and their low heat alarm compatible load resistor that just plugs into that harness. Now when I turn the key ON the turn signals flash 3 times and the alarm light stays illuminated on the dash. No other idiot lights stay ON on mine though... I did figure out that if I turn each turn signal on and off the alarm lights goes off instantly. May just be a coincidence though.
A run down of what I changed, I took the factory front signals off and installed LED turn signal mirrors. This didn't change anything in how the lights worked or the flash frequency and rode this way for a few weeks with nothing out of the ordinary. I changed the rear turn signals to LED and that's when the turn signals started flashing 3 times when the ignition was turned ON. That is also when the alarm light came on and stayed on. The turn signals worked but flashed too fast. So I bought the Kuyakyn plug in harness and load resistor.
I'm not trying to bomb your thread, I just think we are both seeing very similar deals and I bet if either of us get an answer it'll probably give us both something to check out.
Sounds like the same issue, but all I did was replace the license plate lights, I didn't modify anything... As long as it is not hurting anything I have no problem to keep riding
Ok here is an update.... After doing some research, I saw my flashers flash 6 times not 3....figured out how to see the codes.... I got. D08set....tried to look up exactly what this code means, but no clear answers... I checked my battery, cables are tight... When off I get 12v...when running I get 13.5 to 14v...then I may have cleared the code because when I go to look at it again it says D08clr...so my question is what does that code actually mean, and if it stays D08clr should I be all set? No more flashers flashing, but the engine light and alarm light still turn on for a few seconds after they shut off... Any advice would be very helpful thanks
I realize this is really, really old. But I was wondering if this was ever resolved? I have (and have had) the same exact issues with my 01 Softtail std Injected for years. Have never been able to figure it out. I have NO codes (using the switch on, key on while pressing/holding the odo reset button down. All 10 show CLR. I've also tried jumpering the 1 and 2 pins on the ECM connector and get nada. I'm stumped and have been. It bothers me, as the bike seems to run fine, but I can't figure this out. Went to the dealer also and they were no help at all. I've read recently where there is some goofy procedure for relearning the TSM module after you change bulbs , which I haven't tried yet, BUT.... I never changed a bulb so I'm not sure this could be related or not. Did you ever figure this out?
