I wish thinking about doing a fluid change on the front forks of my 93 Heritage Softail Classic. does anyone happen to know the size of that cap bolt on top of the fork tubes? Also, when I unscrew that cap the rebound spring inside that fork tube isn't going to launch out the top correct?

I can't remember off hand what size the chrome top cap nut is on my 2002 Heritage, but I think it was 1-5/16". I'll check tonight when I get home and reply again. I bought a 6 point socket for this and ground the end of the socket flat so it got a better bite on the nut. I initially grabbed a wrench but it's very easy to scratch the chrome and if the wrench slipped it could chip the chrome on the corners of the nut. Same can be said if the socket slips too, so keep the socket flat and don't "hoss on it".

When you remove the top cap nut there is another nut/plug (the chrome cap nut screws into this second nut or plug which only has two wrench flats on it) inside that holds the spring. It is hollow through the middle, so for a fluid change you may not have to remove this second spring retainer nut/plug. It is spring loaded and it kind of goes without saying but as long as you have the front end off the ground it doesn't pop out with so much force you can't hold it, just unscrew it slow and be prepared that you know it's gonna happen. I put my hand over the top of it and kept downward pressure on it using a cresent wrench to keep backing it off until it popped up.
