Default Cam Install on my Fatboy Lo

Just done with a 70 mile test ride after installing a set of S&S 583 cams and S&S Quickie Pushrods. I did most the work by myself and got some assistance from my wife when I was installing the pushrods. It wasn't all that difficult as long as you have the right tools. The install took about 6 hours. There is a definite improvement in HP and Torque! And the sound is amazing!

It really is gratifying to be able to work on your own bike. Not to mention I saved $1000 by doing myself. The dealer wanted $1800 to have the cams and pushrods installed. I am not a certified mechanic but it really wasn't that difficult to do. The only issue that I came across was during the initial pushrod adjustment. The instructions stated after adjusting pushrod down to zero lash, I would need to adjust the length down 24 flats. When I went start my bike there was a loud ticking sound coming from the cam chest. I suspected the adjustment on the pushrods were causing the lifters to bottom out. I completely removed and reinstalled the pushrods and adjusted the length down 20 flats and the ticking sound was gone. I took my bike our for a 70 mile ride and there was no issues whatsoever...

Yeah the Heartland tool did the job! There were no instructions on how to use the tools so I had to figure it out on my own. The cam removal tool comes with a round metal dowel that needs to be tapped in to expand the mandrel ends. You have to squeeze the mandrel ends for the tool to fit through the bearing then slip dowel and tap until it reached the end of the cam chest wall. I panicked at first when I could fit the mandrel past the bearing then realized I could squeeze then ends to fit..lol
