Default Test drove a Slim S on the weekend!

I have always rode Japanese bikes all my life. Been riding for over 30 years. Recently I bobbed out my wife's Suzuki S50(800 Intruder), and loved riding it.

Decided to go try out a Harley for the first time in my life. I went to a Harley ride day on Saturday. Got to try out a few of the bikes I had interest in. The bike I fell in love with was the new Softail Slim S. I am really into the simple bobber look at the moment, and this thing fit the bill perfectly! All blacked out, Single seat, pretty fast, and nice throw back look to it. This bike will look as good 30 years from now, as it does to day. The riding position was perfect for me. Never saw the use for floor boards, but I do now. They like to scrape a lot, but give you many foot positions you just don't get with pegs.

All in all I give the bike two thumbs up!

I was wondering how tall you are, how much you weigh, and general build. Online, it looks like a small bike which is why I am asking.

I ride a 95 Heritage Softail Classic.

Did you happen to ride a Heritage or Deluxe? If so, how would you compare them to it?

I ride a 15 slim and love it I'm 5'8 220 lbs . Its a comfortable bike. It would be a little more comfy with ape hangers but I like the look of the Hollywood bars

The slim s rocks bro. I think the slim s with the army paint scheme is the overall best looking softail to come out in a long time. I'm glad you like it. Post pics when you get it and welcome to the stf

I am 5 - 11", and about 220 lb's. It fit me perfectly. Over the two days that I and others test drove the bike, everyone that rode it, loved it. All different sizes of people. I don't think I heard one negative from anyone all weekend.

Bikes I tried

Softail Slim S - Great old school looks, nice low comfortable riding position that anyone can ride. Great engine. Lots of power, and great response. Almost no vibration. Rear tire a little bit too narrow, but helped it to make it the best handling of the ones I tried. Average seat. Needs more rear lip to it. Footboards rule. Multiple foot placement.

Fat Boy S - More modern looks, but been around for a while. Found bike to bulky looking in rear end. Love the look of the 200mm back tire. Made it a bit harder to steer, and throw around than the Slim. Same great engine as Slim. Felt a little too tall and bulky. You either love or hate the solid wheels. Seat too soft. Great footboards.

Fat bob - Loved the front end looks with the two headlights. Hated the rear end. Bike seems to struggle with identity. Seat way too soft. Colour scheme not the greatest. Average bike overall.

Iron 883. Terrible seat. Bike is way too small after riding others. Vibration terrible on slow down from engine. Very small tank. Bike ran out twice on people during testing. Not a bike I would buy.

Forty - Eight - Pretty much same problems as the Iron 883. No thanks.

Street Bob - Great looking bike. Nice seat. Foot pegs in worst possible position. Hit them every time you put down, or pick up your feet. Bike fest a bit small for me.

Breakout - Probably the most popular looking bike of the bunch. Bass boat paint job. Could get too much after a while. Very wide back tire, looks cool, but makes bike hard to maneuver. Very small front tire and chopped front end, seems a little dated to me. So did the wheel style. Front handlebars are a reach, and with the forward controls, make you sit like a V. Not good for distance of any kind.

Road King - Not a fan of the colour scheme. Seat was great at first, but turned out to be too confining and hot after 5 minutes. Had to look through tall windshield to ride it. Like looking through a fish bowl. Not for me. Feels very dated all the way around.
