LoL, you didn't mention all that other stuff though my shield tucks right in as well. I want to see this "small purse". We'll just have to agree to disagree. On another note, if she has a sissy bar, a nice bag over it should more than do the trick. I guess I'm lucky I like what I've got, don't have all the problems and consider myself ahead of the game.

Oh one other thing.

Harley makes a quick detach kit for the Heritage. There is no way to make the Deluxe bags quick detach and retain the three point mounts that I have come up with. There are aftermarket quick detach kits for the top mounts, but you have to leave the bottom brackets off AFAIK.

I know it sounds like I'm really bagging on the Deluxe bags, they aren't all bad. They are well made, they fit properly (if you are going to use a QD rack or backrest, go ahead and put the docking kit on the start with, moving the lower bracket is a pain) and they look good. My beef is that the internal volume is too irregular and though some of that is necessary for the belt guard and swingarm cutouts, a good part of it is for styling. You have full height only at the front and then only the inner most portion as the lid is sloped. One bag is internally bigger, but the smaller one is almost taken up my what I consider "normal motorcycle stuff" like face shield/visor cargo net rain gear that sort of thing. Sleeko's jacket would not have gone in there so nicely if it had even CE soft armor in it.

All I am saying is before you spend the 900 bucks on HD bags, take a really close look at them and make sure they are going to work for you/your wife.

This picture has the lowering kit on it...I'm pretty sure.

I'm fine with agreeing to disagree... everyones experience is different.

It does have a sissy bar now, and a bag for it was precisely my plan...

I like the bike, in fact for some other reasons she's talking about giving it to me and getting her something else. If she does I'll throw some standard height RAP on it, put the stock seat back on and

Cool

Just thought of something. I had a problem with one bag popping open when I went over railroad tracks. The dealer showed me a trick to press down the top of the bag near the lock mechanism until you feel it click. I've not had a problem since. Might help if this is an issue for your wife Super.

Other side with lowering kit.

We've definitely both taken to making sure the bags are latched before we ride off. I'll try the "trick" and see if it makes it easier.

Before I bought my Deluxe, I was hoping to buy a Heritage. However, at 5'4" and a 28" inseam, I found I can't effectively reach the side stand on a Heritage to raise it. So it made the Deluxe an easy purchase. She must sit on and ride, if possible, both before purchasing.

Cheers, Peter

Thats a valid point, starting in 15 (I believe) the "ergo" jiffy stand is standard on many softails. Deluxe and Slim for sure, not sure about the Heritage.

SuperWife flips the floor board up with her toe and it allows her to raise the stand more easily.

My apologies, I didn't connect that was a picture of your wife's bike. Thanks for posting additional pics.

You mentioned "the lowering kit". Is that the front suspension you are referring to? Or, is that after-market rear? I can't find a lowering kit for the rear of the Deluxe in the P&A catalog.

It got up to over 90° here today; so it was a good day to jump in the SUV & drive to a new HD dealer in the area. No 16s on display yet, but they had (2) 15 Heritage bikes parked along side a 15 Deluxe. She looked over & sat on both. No problem getting either off the side stand (& in street shoes), but couldn't flat foot either which is as expected.

Once we got past color - ALWAYS the first thing my wife looks at & admits it - she tended to like the Heritage more. Once we opened them, she was impressed with the size of the bags. The taillights & rear fender treatments weren't an issue either way. Handlebars on both were questionable - it would probably depend on the saddle options. But the extra 1" or so of height in the Heritage saddle did make a noticeable difference in her ability to reach the ground. I think the Heritage would definitely need the suspension changed.

No worries. I don't have many pictures of it.

I used a softail lowering kit (http://www.softailloweringkit.com/) in the rear. And you're correct I don't think Harley sells a lowering kit for the Deluxe. They will sell you one for the Heritage and they will sell you Deluxe shocks for a Heritage "profile shocks" or Heritage shocks for a Deluxe "comfort flex shocks".

I wouldn't want to go any lower than hers, it is pretty easy to bottom out or drag floorboards on.

All that sounds pretty familiar, though she cares less about the color. We looked at Sportsters, Slim, Heritage and Deluxe.

Hey bro - Heritage was my choice liked the way the pipes drop and bags and shield - which I cut mine down from 16inch to 11icnh. Agree more value and the ride, seat etc is nice. That being said the Deluxe always turns my head.
