Rough ride and lost horsepower

Hey guys I was on a ride out of state when my 2006 FLSTI started to backfire and ride really rough. It smooths out when I get above 60 but she had no power. It felt like I was pulling a trailer. We checked the plugs and they were fine. I was hoping it was the cables but was wondering what you all thought. Could it be fuel pump? and if so how can I check it?

Bad gas, maybe? Had you recently refueled when it started?

I had, but I've gone through 4 tanks since then too. Changing just the filter should fix it then, right?

Where did you go? Elevation? How is your bike tuned? How do you turn your bike off? Does this happen only when the bike is hot? Fuel pressure regulators and internal hoses are known to crack and fail, to check you need to pull the dash and open the fuel pump plate...

Your symptoms sound like what I experienced last year. After many hours of troubleshooting I discovered a failed O-ring on the fuel pressure regulator.

Me thinks it's inside your tank. Probably the fuel line is cracked or the regulator near the filter has separated. Might as well replace the filter while in there. JMO
