Default Clutch Cable Seeping

Hi All

2 years ago I had my bars and cables changed. I used steel braided cables. It now looks like the clutch cable is seeping...the Cable itself9 has a protective coating on it) has discolored near the tran. I can run my hand over it and it comes up damp with what I guess is trans fluid. I not really concerned with the cable being a little discolored..but is there an o-ring I need to change to stop the seeping or will I need to replace the cable?

There is an o ring that goes on the end of the clutch cable where it goes into the transmission cover. That thing could have gone bad. It's highly unlikely though, you changed that cable 2 years ago and it's leaking now?

Maybe the clutch cable needs to be re-torqued where it goes into the tranny cover?

I ran a chrome clutch cable as well for a few years. It got discolored right in that same area where yours got discolored. I just chalked it up to road grime and **** being kicked up from the road when I rode the bike.

If you over lubricated the clutch cable itself maybe the fluid that is seeping at the bottom is that Lube coming through the cable.

Yea I agree it's strange but it is def seeping from somewhere down there. I'll recheck the torque on the bolt. I guess if that doesn't stop it I'll pull the exhaust this winter and go after the seal and the o-ring

Check the transmission vent. If it's clogged the trans fluid will be forced up the clutch cable housing when the transmission gets hot.

Never knew it had a vent. Do you know where it is located?

Check the top of the transmission, rubber tube with a couple of bends in it. At least that's what the newer ones look like. Any gear box is going to have some kind of vent otherwise you get fluid being forced somewhere.

This... I had bugs nest in my vent last year and cable started leaking.. took vent off and blew it out .. problem solved. My vent was on the bottom right side of the tranny

If it's blowin out at the oil ring due to the vent hose or not, two options: replace the 'o' ring or live with it. Pain in the **** to pull the pipes to get to it, I know.

My wife's Slim was blowing trans oil up the cable housing and across the front of her engine a few weeks ago. How many times would you have suggested I should replace the O-ring before I give up and clean out the transmission vent line and really fix the problem? When the vent is clogged a new O-ring is not going to stop the oil from being pushed up the cable housing. Clearing the vent line will fix that problem and takes just a few minutes, doesn't require and tools, and didn't even get my hands dirty (this last could vary depending on how clean you keep your bike).

I Never even considered the vent being clogged as the cause of this problem. Just learned something new, I love this place.

Your transmission vent should be right under the oil tank, on top of the transmission. Might be a pain in the *** to squeeze your fingers in there without removing the oil tank.

Let us know how it turns out bro.
