My Mods Thread - 2016 Softail Slim S
Have not done anything else to the bike except replacing the skulls for Marines medallions. Also, the pin I ordered to replace the center HD emblem on the seat screw, was too big. Need to continue to look for the correct size.

And Happy New Year to everyone!!

Buying from here: https://www.marineshop.net/
And this is the one that I have... Too big for the HD screw...

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders

Nasty weather the first two days. Day one was from Orlando to Miami, all under constant rain. Day two was from Miami to Key West, all under really bad weather with 25-35mph wind-gusts
All this to document a few changes that I need to do to the bike for these longer rides...this is the first long ride that I do not use a Touring bike...
1. I need to make a base for a cup holder that will fit the Slim S' stock handle bar. I have the cup holder that I took off the RK... just need to make something to install it on the thin cross support but that it will place the holder higher to avoid hitting anything... I have the technology...and the pieces of aluminum.. must get to work on it, lol.
2. Need to get proper rain gear... A year ago, I bought three sets of the cheapest Frog Toggs that I could find... I think I spent 30.00 in all three... Took one with me and it did the job, but they are disposable... Between the exhaust system melting a hole in it, feeling like a kite because these do not have straps to keep them close to the body, same for the boot area... as much as I hate spending that kind of $$ for a proper rain suit, I am adding this to the list. Just seeing my friends riding more comfortable with their rain gear just seal the deal...
3. Need to cut some rubber mat that would go on top of the rear fender to avoid scratches from the securing straps/bungee cords. I had to be very careful not to scratch the fender... still managed one small scratch (barely noticeable, but I know it is there
). Can't have more of those... The rack worked well... pretty happy with that.4. Luggage. Needs to be waterproof, lol. Here is were I missed the saddlebags in the touring bike. I managed with the cover that it comes with and a trash bag... but now that I do not have saddlebags, I need to add one more, rectangular, piece of luggage to go with the cylinder styled one that I have... rectangular in the bottom to provide a good base for the cylinder on top... straps worked well. I just used those bungee cords.

5. The seat, as long as I was able to find the right spot, was great for 140 miles stretch. Then a stop for gas and refreshments... I was worried about it being a true pita, since I did not have the time to send it for internal modification...but no pain/discomfort on the whole ride.
6. Loved the adapter that plugs into the charging pigtail and has an USB port...kept my phone charged all the way. Pig tail is close to the swingarm bag, so the phone was in a ziploc bag inside the swingarm bag... I had the phone connected via Bluetooth to my helmet listening to some music... worked well. I need to get the same adapter but with the cigarette plug for the air compressor that I carry. Since the touring bike had one, I forgot to buy one for this bike...
That is all for now... overall, even if the weather getting there was crap... we had great weather on Saturday and were also able to avoid the nasty weather on the way back by heading out a few hours later than we had planned.

Not looking forward to detailing the bike...

Cheers!
