In my opinion, apes make the breakout look more like a Softail Custom, which is not a bad thing. It is just a different style. Kind of like which of your kids you love the most.

Regardless of looks, if there is a handlebar or seat etc on your bike that causes you pain, it would be stupid to leave it on your bike simply because it looks cool even though it prevents you from riding it.

All that being said, I prefer a curved set of apes instead of the sharp cornered angled style that has become popular.

That style was not really a style. It was a simple homemade design that was easier to build than bars with symmetrical curves. Now everybody and their brother wants them because they want to portray a home brew, DIY, SOA, etc. type of image even though they are buying these and paying out the nose for something that was cheap and really DIY. That's my take on the angled bar style.

None of which matters by the way. As long as you like it and it makes it more comfortable for you to ride instead of turning it into garage art, everything else don't mean ****.

Hey Thanks!
Freak Show is right on...the are JSR custom "straight up" bars. He's not far from me in Arizona so I had him build a set with no step downs at the risers.
As far as other things - I got the +6 black pearl cables from Magnum and ordered the wiring extensions from Carlini (only because they are close and I wanted them fast).

I did do the install myself...it wasn't bad. Worst part for me is always pulling the tank and having to deal with the crossover tube...just a pain in the a$$....oh and then when the powdercoater melted my speedo housing in the oven! He replaced it...but...it was 5 more days without a bike!

Haha....I hear you on all points.
I think I looked at every breakout with apes I could find on the internet...and for some reason I liked the more aggressive lines of the pointed bars on this bike. I've had curved apes on everything else..but they didn't look right to me on this bike. That being said I paid 1/2 the price of the Carlini's I almost bought!
And you are right on about being comfortable. I could have left the drag bars on if I was hopping around town...but after about an hour I started feeling it in my back so I had to make a change. Of all the options I liked this the best. And I don't think it "ruined" the bike as some have said...I'm actually happy that when I go to a rally I know which breakout is mine!

I've seen some pretty terrible looking apes on a BO...but I thought the aggressiveness of the bars I ended up going with worked well with the bike.
I realize it is mostly subjective, but was just looking for some opinions.
They look very cool!!! And I;m not even an ape guy.

If you are going to put apes on a Breakout, those are the perfect style in my opinion anyway.

Take criticism as it is. Everyone has their own taste and style so you can't please everyone. I for one have done a few risks on style and some like it some don't. When I did my fender swap I was worried I would end up looking like a rocker c with a skinny tire. Some like the bobber fenders some don't. I build my bike for me to enjoy
