Default Toying with a 6 Speed

Howdy,

I'm just toying with the idea of putting a 6 speed in my 2006 Softail Deluxe. (no 2007 envy here!) We took a long tour last summer and I was often looking for that next gear.

I know that there are Baker, Ultima and Screaming Eagle out there.

I looked at the sites and the prices and all, but being a mechanical boob, can't be for sure what it will entail.

Has anyone out there done this? What sort of cost is involved?

I would certianly need to have someone install for me, so that certainly adds to it.

Am I better off just holding on to the Deluxe fora few years and get a newer bike later?

I guess it is not really critical to have the 6, but the lower rpm while touring might be nice.

Thanks,
Arthur

Default RE: Toying with a 6 Speed

I currently have the DD6 in my 03 FXST. The parts people ordered a OD6 last fall lucky for me I had DD on the Service order. due to time constraints the SM installed the OD6 and let me ride with that till I brought the bike in for the winter. I prefer the DD6 over the OD6.

The DD6 has a positive stop for both upshift and downshift. (with the OD you can "upshift" while in 6th. Justa personnel preference. I didn't have a tach on the bike last year; this year I do.The bike is at 3k at 80 MPH(6th gear)with nice acceleration for passing in 6th.

It was 2300 installed for the DD6.
This included the S&S speedo calibrator and the dyno runs to adjust.

Sounds good and not over the top expensive.
Thanks
