Welcome to the Forum from Colorado!

Could be the previous owner decided a sealant was the thing to do. Maybe he had to if he used a shitty gasket.

A putty knife and a lot of patience plus maybe some gasket remover.

If you carefully try to slip a putty knife that is in good condition under the gasket and patiently start working your way around, it should just pop off. Harley gaskets are pretty good like that. Just avoid hacking away at it. Firm, patient pressure is required here.

Your lucky the cover itself came off. My sons fatboy cover will not come off for the life of us. We replace the primary fluid through the inspection area. Bolts come out just fine, cover, no such luck. You might want to place a rag or something inside to catch any of the gasket as u scrape it off.

Good suggestions in above posts. Use caution when peeling off old gasket keeping in mind the surface your digging at is aluminum and must be kept a smooth machined surface to insure complete seal of replacement gasket.
