I have a very small leak from my primary. I changed out the gaskets but still have the leak. Its only a drop or two every time I run it but I want it stopped. Being as the big gasket has only been on the bike for a month or so, can I reuse it? I'm thinking about putting some gasket sealant around edge of the cover this time. That should hopefully stop the leak. Any info in greatly appreciated.
I run into this alot.. Use a little non-hardening permatex along with the gasket. Make sure the surface is dry and oil free when ya do it.. Should solve the problem..
If the gasket isnt torn or dinged I would re-use it.. But also depends on the gasket material... If it's not a metal (never seal anyway) gasket then sure..
The usual reason for the leaks is usually some sorta crud on the gasket sealing surfaces.. make really really sure there clean of all old gasket material and crud and stuff.. Don't goop on a whole boatload of sealant.. ya really don't need much and "more is better" doesn't apply here..

Yea - the owners manual even shows you the pattern. 5 bolts going clockwise from top , the pattern should be 1-4-2-5-3. Snug them down in that pattern and then torque wrench them in that pattern. It could be as simple as that. I'd give that a try before doing the permetex to see if it works. Permetex is just more goop to deal with when you change the primary fluid again.
Permatex #80062 High Tack, Non hardening. It is stringyer than all get out. But don't worry. Once you have the primary on, little lacquer thinner on rag, wipe, it comes right off, scoot looks good, leak relegated to the back 40. When it comes time to work on primary again, stuff will come off with lacquer thinner, and you cn reuse the gasket, yet again. (As long as you don't trash it.)
If the stuff will hold a panhead together, it will hold yours.
All the rest still applies as posted.

Not sure about the Dyna engine, but my TC88B has two post gaskets that are on the inside of the primary where the inspection cover bolts up. Might make sure these are in place as well before you button it up.
