Been there? Or are you contemplating it?
I my self don't get it. Less I rode in a straight line all day. But then, that would be only half the fun. No?
So why you do it?
Eh you know how it is- it's all about different things for different folks and doing different things to your bike. I could see it benefiting the touring bikes that do mostly long freeway stretches or parade cruising.
I think one of the biggest reason some see since in the dark side .. is tire longevity. A tire that could last 25-35k miles would cut the cost of tires down quite a bit.. it has always bugged me how they can make the car tires last for 70k. but a bike tire you are lucky to get 10-12k, I know there are different demands on bike tire vs car tires. but man it would be nice not to have to buy new tires every year.
It's wrong, just plain wrong imho. There's a reason why tyre developers have spent billions since the coming of the motor car and motorcycle designing tyres that work for a certain application, hence what we have today. How could you swerve a car tyred motorcycle any where as quickly and as safely as a properly tyred motorcyle in an emergency situation?
I'd rather replace my tyres more regularly then risk safety.
