this is my first post, and my first HD. my last bikes were all yamaha's (vmax) anyway i just got my new 06 deuce and i had some porker pipes installed with a stg 1 kit and download to correct the efi, my bike is still lean. is the the hd race tuner worth the extra $$$
I went with the power commander, it is $268 on ebay as compared to the $400+ harley wants for the race tuner.
plus they want to charge you $150 to flash the ECM.
I went the poser commander route and loaded the same map as my pipes and air cleaner, and it sounded great, but was a little lean on the low end, so I used the buttons to richen it up a little.
I say go with the p-commander also. I did and it works great. Gained 5 lb. ft. torque and 5 h.p. with it. Be aware, your MPG's could drop as much as 25 miles per tank depending on how rich your settings end up. The H.D. race tuner has more adjustments that are really not neccesary unless you are concerned about really fine tuning and racing.
I bitched @ the dealer for not telling me the download would do the trick so they offered to do the race tuner for $ 280. installed. i asked about the power comander and they highly recomended i go with the race tuner. not saying the power comander is bad, i have just had bad luck with dyno jet products
My dealer told me my warranty is gone if I do the down load or a race tuner. infact anything with the crossed flags in the book is a no-no for the warranty.
I got the race tuner on my bike. They mentioned the whole "if you install it then your warranty is void" so after thinking an little I had them install it just for the warranty's sake. I figured If something happens where it ran too lean or rich it would be more expensive to fix than the couple hundred extra in their labor. So she runs like a champ and I am very happy with it. You can save a little $$ if you put on the pipes and the air cleaner yourself.
Just got my bike back from the dealer. they installed the race tuner. WOW! now this is how it should be.......... my dyno run showed me with 74.9 hp and 77.8 trq. not bad for a stock engine with pipes and stg 1air cleaner kit.
the race tuner is a better way to go in my opinion. If you have your dealer install it, you are covered under warranty (my dealer said I was covered). And it is a direct program mod to the ECM and does not require the addition of hardware (black box). The program itself is actually very cool.....
