Default Help...my first Harley

I want to purchase my first Harley after coming off sport bikes. I am most interested in looks and sound and have a few things my bike must have. The first pic in the soft tail standard pics is similar to what I am looking for. It must have drag bars, a different rear fender from stock because I do not care for the original and also the bike must be loud. I want to also be able to keep a passenger seat or have the option to add it when the wife wants to join me. I would like to stay under 20K. Also I would like to keep payments around 300 a month or so. Any advice would be greatly appreciated in helping find what I am looking for so I can join all of the great HD family members.

If Ya buy "used", maybe 3 to 5 years old, they drop to the $15000 to $13000 range depending on the model, and chances are it'll have at least loud pipes...that should keep You in the $300/mo. range, and should leave You extra $ to pick your bars of choice, and a different rear fender, among other personal touches You'd want to add.

Is there much difference in the model if you go back a few years or is it about the same bike?

the fatboy looks the same for the most part, I think the TwinCam 88 inch motor was standard from 2000 to 2006, before that was the Evo, an excellent choice also. These are the newer "non oil leakers", very powerful and efficient engines. You can do an image search on yahoo or google to get pics, or browse e-bay, where You'll also get price ideas.

Try looking at a Nightrain, they come with drag bars and theyre is no law saying you HAVE to keep the origian rear fender. There is also no law saying you can't put drag bars on other models, I would haowever resist the temptation to put them onany of the biggertired FL forked models. They might not be as easy to deal with as any of the 21" wheel FX forked bikes.
Seats are nearly a dime a ton, even if good ones cost a bunch more than a dime. So the Mrs. shouldn't be able tocomplain about a sore butt.
Loud pipes are also almost the norm and slip ons or whole heard systems are both common and loud. How loud is up to your taste, your wallet's limits, and the Mrs. ability to stand the noise.
