The typical store 1156/1157 leds are horrible. not worth it / can't see them in daytime. Sure the CD's do work well but it always pained me how much they are soaking you for the round led insert (not the bullet rings or entire assemblies, I understand why those are expensive).

The LEDs used on those simple CD inserts are better than the wally world / auto parts versions, but, they are still low cost chips and about 3-5 years outdated by newer brighter LED chip technology. But they are plug n play easy for most, so the added price is the convenience factor. realistically, those insert boards probably cost less than a buck apiece to make.

This is what I did with my rears- they are burn-your-eyeballs bright as sin, low cost, and the bulbs carry a 2 year warranty. any of the led bulbs made by the mfr on amazon I link to in my thread is top notch, their factory makes bulbs for the automotive industry and this is the latest, brightest most reliable led tech out there. these are at least 2x-3x as bright as the CD inserts.
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...bs-ez-mod.html

with pre-2012 bikes that use the TSM, you can fix the fast flashing dash indicator with a pair of load equalizer resistors, 6 ohm, on each side's turn signal hot wire. one side of resistor to turn hot wire, the other end of it to ground.

on 2012-up can-bus bikes that use the new BCM module, load equalizers no longer work. the led signal lights themselves will always flash normally, but the dash arrows will flash 2x as fast. there is presently no fix for that but I don't find it bothersome.

and please don't think I'm knocking the CD products because I'm not- this is just another option and I wanted something as bright as possible at what I felt was a more reasonable cost.

^^^ LA Dog, thank you for the link to your thread! I want LED signal bulbs but like you the CD is so darn expensive.

I'm going to check out your solution. Many thanks!
