i've seen two different sets of bars on the LO. mine were traditional fat boy bars, and i've seen a few that were more like what they call trackers. almost like dirt bike bars. i liked those, just to lo for me. my bars were to low and my elbows were in my ribs, felt like i was turning a bus. like those beach bars, they look cool but way to wide for me.

The Heritage is very much like a Fat Boy and undoubtedly rides like one. I prefer the Fat Boy because:

1. Don't like the Heritage bags. This is, of course, a matter of preference.

2. I don't like spokes. I much prefer the iconic Fat Boy solid wheels.

On the flip side, I love the Heritage riding lights on either side of the main headlight. Very nice.

Heritage is a great bike. But the Fat Boy is for me.

I've had a Heritage and now a Fatboy. They're the same bike besides bags and trim pieces. I liked the Heritage but I wish they made the bags detachable. My Fatboy I have now I've added quick detach saddle bags. I love the Fatboy and I think it looks the most like the old classics from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Heritage bags can easily be made quick detach. I didn't even bother as its only three bolts per side and takes about 2 minutes to remove them. I like the Fatty's but the weight of the solid wheels makes the steering feel "heavy" IMHO.

This is so true and then in the late 90's you couldn't get a RK. I bought a new one in 99 for like 15k. I rode all summer and put in paper end of OCT and a guy brought me 20K in a paper sack.

That's all I see at the dealerships, as in used ones traded in for a Dyna or bagger.

The consumer demand for HD has always ebbed and flowed. At one point there was no bike more popular than a black Fatboy. Then it was the RK. I remember in 1998 thru early 2000 when you couldn't give away a RG. There was a dealer waiting list and you had to have a trade for any new HD other than a RG at all of our local dealers. One local dealer even quit putting them on the showroom and kept them in the back.

Now the RG's are hot and you hardly see a RK anywhere. Who knows what is next? The touring bikes seem to be pretty firmly entrenched since the SG came out. Lots of guys just going straight to touring and not climbing the ladder as they used to.

Can you see a time when the Fatboy could be discontinued through lack of popularity?

It is not an unpopular bike here in the US by any stretch. I worked at a dealership for three years and there are plenty of Fatboys still being sold. They bike has for all intents and purposes three variations if you count the Slim. I would be willing to be as long as there is HD there will always be a RK in some form and there will always be a Fatboy as well. They are staple bikes and unique to the brand.
