Default Voltage Regulator Wiring Question

2004 Heritage (FLSTCI) I am replacing a voltage regulator, pretty straight forward I thought, however my bike did not have a wire from the regulator to the main circuit breaker as specified in the manual or in all of the wiring diagrams I saw.

It seems that there should be a wire coming out of the regulator, ran all the way back to the AUX post on the main panel? Can any of you confirm?

When I purchased the bike, the regulator was cracked and hanging, all there was connected was the plug and the ground. I tried tracing a wire to the main panel but there isn't anything.

I know it wouldn't be too hard to just run a wire, but I qm more interested in knowing why my bike did not have one.

Any input/help appreciated

Thanks

There has to be a wire from the output of the reg to the circuit breaker and/or the fuse box. Possibly up to the ign switch. As I'm sure you found on the diagrams they all tie together somewhere.

On my '02 the wire runs along the right side of the frame next to the rear brake line.

Check there or see if you have a wire running up one of the down tubes of the frame to under the tank. Maybe they change the wire routing.

It doesn`t matter why it was not connected correctly, it just matters that you connect it correctly now.

According to the wiring diagram, the wire from the voltage regulator should be connected to the main breaker, at the silver colored stud (output side of the breaker).

Schematics, I'd start there. Don't have a manual for your year but someone in here has got one, maybe they'll step up and post a scan.
