Default FXSTC Seat Question

Hi. I bought an '08 FXSTC last year and am doing some mods. The bike came with a Mustang two-up seat. The seat has a tongue in the front that is supposed to fit into some sort of slot behind the gas tank. There is no slot, and the seat never really fit right. I ordered a Saddleman Renegade solo seat that allegedly fit the Custom, which also arrived with a tongue in the front. I went to my local HD dealer and showed them the seat. I was told that the Custom requires a different front mount; a "C" mount (a slot in the seat) - I called Saddleman and asked about the seat I bought. I was told they do not make a Renegade for a Custom. I then called Heartland as I want to replace the rear fender anyway and asked about the kit for my bike. I was told their EZ kit would fit the Custom so I asked about the solo seat that comes with it. It too has a tongue in the front. The salesman said all FX bikes use the same seat mount. I called my HD dealer back and was told that is not correct, Customs have a different front mount. Any Custom owners out there that can help? Thanks!

In reference to the seat tongue and slot under tank, I own an 07 FXSTC and replaced the stock seat with tuck and roll style from the Harley catalog. There was a metal tongue on the old seat I removed, not a "C" mount or (a slot in the seat) as you were told. The new seat had a tongue also that slipped into a slot at the rear/bottom of the tank. The slot is technically not attached to the tank, but i part of the frame. Not sure why there is no slot under your tank. Possible that there is a difference from an 07 to an 08. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information! I have attached a photo of what I am talking about. Maybe I'm missing something?

Your photo confirms its the same as my 09 model and fits the description by Doc TDK

The seat tang slides under the metal support to which the end of the tank is bolted to.

OK, that is helpful. So, I just put the Mustang seat back on and the front sits well short of the gas tank, leaving a 2-3 inch gap. My guess is the seat is not made for the Custom. I looked at the pictures of your bike. Which seat do you have? Your bars look just like the ones I installed. I think we are both going for similar looks! You have a nice looking ride!

Thanks very much for the comments,
I have the HD Brawler Seat and Street Slammer bars.
The look is all down to Russel Mitchell at Exile Cycles, Horn and Coil relocation kit, removed fake seat post, bullet LED turn signals and his tail tidy gives it a nice clean look I reckon.

Oh, I nearly forgot, Exiles Mid Controls conversion.

I'm on a limited budget and have been slowly doing one or two mods a year over the winter months, it spreads the cost and gives me plenty of time in between to make sure it's definitely what I want.

Enjoy the process and shows us the changes as and when.
