I am closing a deal on a 2014 amber whiskey breakout this next week...
It's strapping me for cash, so i can't get the exhaust i want quite yet, so I figure the next best thing is to get rid of the baffles and throw in some Thunder Torque inserts.
Does anyone have a breakout with stock exhaust here that they'd be willing to throw a measuring tape on the exhaust and get the diameter for me?
The dealership is an hour away and the reason I ask is I would like to get the inserts here this week, without having to drive out there and measure. not trying to be lazy.
this way, when i pick up the bike I can tear the baffles out and bolt in the inserts before my first ride home... this should also to **** with the heads of the guys at Harley- when i do it in their parking lot.
Not sure if they changed exhaust on factory (but I doubt it). My '16 breakout stock exhaust measured 3 1/8" I.D. on the can/muffler. And either 1 9/16" to 1 5/8" on the header. Hope that helps.
This isn't something that's going to be easily accomplished in the parking lot. You have to remove the mufflers and drill out the rivets holding the baffles/cats in. The Thunder Torque baffles have to be installed in the head pipes which requires drilling holes to mount them. The mufflers become empty chambers at that point. I'm not saying you couldn't do it, I'm just saying it isn't as easy as you're thinking.
The other option is to check out the classified section on here. You might be surprised at the deals you can find for exhaust systems.. (Bought "the enforcers" old 2 into 2 exhaust system)
Since it is a Softail the catalytic converters are in the mufflers.
Remove the mufflers and put on a set of slip ons instead. Slip ons, free flowing air cleaner, and a decent tune will net you more power, lower temperatures, and better throttle response.
Otherwise what you are planning on doing will not get you any real benefit except make noise.
If you don't have the money now, save the money to do it right. What is the worse that will happen riding it as is? It might sound like a cop bike? Big deal.
