what vehicle do you have? i've considered getting an RV style motorcycle carrier, they are a bit expensive but you have to have a 2500 or 3500 pickup for it to work. your "tongue weight" capacity should be over 1k.

I installed tie downs and a removable tire chuck for the front tire. My trailer's back door is a ramp. I paid $2,700 for my trailer and I pull it with my Jeep easily. I have hauled furniture, generators and everything else in it in addition to my bike.

This guy is no idiot. He intended on using his trailer all along and just thought he would jerk our chain.
I have an open utility trailer I use all the time. It has sides and a ramp tailgate. It doesn't have any special tiedowns. I just strap to the side framing. Just came back to SC from Gatlinburg with no problems.

Don't sweat it.
Often times ideas seem good but turn out to not be so when other opinions are brought to the table.
Just be thankful that in today's world we all have the internet as a means to get those other opinions.

I once pulled a 2500 .lbs trailer from Biloxi MS. to Minot N.D. behind a 1973 Dodge Charger.
When I got to Minot my Dad looked on my setup and thought I was freaking crazy.

The issue wasn't the car but rather the hitch setup I went with.
I bought a used bumper hitch that just clamped onto the bumper.
Turned out not only was the hitch only rated for 1500 .lbs, but my bumper mounting brackets were all rusted out.

My Dad couldn't believe that I'd made it 1700 miles without catastrophic failure.
He took my car down to a local u-haul dealer and had them install a correct hitch.

I then went on to Rapid City S.D. without worry.
BTW I never towed anything else with that car.

Long story short; we all need a little slap upside the head from time to time
