Bad advice jm35ny. It will probably be cheaper to buy a used right side case and have it installed than paying the dealer to repair yours. Once the cases are split I would upgrade all the bearings and re-ring the Pistons if they look worn and the gap is too far out. Once rebuilt it will run like new and have plenty of life to make it another 120+k plus miles

I agree its probably not the best option just a cheap fix. If you have the funds a rebuild is a much better way to go

I wasn't replacing the lifters. I initially was going to check and readjust the valves as the valve train was ticking a bit louder than normal but I was unable to properly adjust the exhaust pushrod. i then easily removed the intake lifter but the exhaust would not come out, nor could I rotate it after removing the anti rotation pin. No way would I just reinstall the lifters and ride. If I decide to fix it, I'll do it correctly and redo everything while I'm in there. I sure hate to do anything other than the bottom end repair as my last tune up showed 190 psi and

It's hard to tell, but here is a picture of it. It is repairable but like stated, it would require splitting the cases to do it right.

I'm sorry to hear your bike is gonna need some expensive/extensive work. I'd do as you said and buy a back up bike. I keep two at all times so nothing interrupts my riding season. By doing that you can perform the work your self (at least the taking apart and putting together) and save a little money.

Already did. I picked up a 2016 sportster 1200 custom last Friday evening. One heck of a fun ride. New engine on the way for my fatboy.
