Garmin car cable hack
my old Garmin finally died.
i always used a usb to mini usb + battery pack that was inside my windshield bag.
The ball mount threaded onto the windshield.
contrary to Garmin, it wasn't spose to work.
It worked fine zept no traffic alerts... bfd, that option
sucked hard..
bought new one. it would not work w/o proprietary cord..
Error message complained about wrong cable..
I cut off the cig lighter plug, replaced it with usb.
i did offset all splices, solder, heat shrink..
Only 4 wires matter atall.
2 reds together, 2 blacks together..
cut off flush all others.
total length bout 14-16 inches
I plugged into battery pack and Garmin.
immediately, it received traffic updated OTA,
charged up etc great .
same setup in car .
No obnoxious unruly cords.. for car i did build Garmin Holder
between console and ashtray. cord inconspicuous there as well
