Hey guys. How 'bout a little help out there. First of all, focus your attention on the picture here in the post of my Fat Boy and look particularly at the right rear foot peg. See how it's rotated to flip on a horrizontal plane rather than on a vertical? Two weeks ago, I had the SE II's put on and love them. But, the tech rotated the operation of the footpeg by 90 degrees I'm assuming so that when I close it, it now goes between the two pipes rather than flipping up and touching the hot pipe getting melted rubber on the pipe which I've already experienced from my wife's black boot. Not fun, thank you very much. But, now when she rides back there, the foot peg is giving her trouble by flipping in between the pipes when we are riding and she can't get it out on the move. We have to stop and pull over and pull it back out. I think I want to get it back to the origonal way trying to keep it away from the hot exhaust. What do I do, just put a good old fashioned wrench on it and turn like heck? I can't see how to do it. Any suggestions???
I used to have the same problem until I got the longshots which run under the peg. You might want to check in the J&P catalog to see if they have some kind of locking peg. This is one of the reasons that I went with the longshots. It seemed like I was forever having to scrub off the burned boot marks.
I would also recommend looking for an extention, let a good parts guy at a dealer come up with a solution..If no luck there see if you can come up with a spacer of some sort, of course it would have to look good to....Good luck....
Heck, I'd go back and talk to the dealer that put it on like that. Doesn't even seem right. So far my HD experience is you can do anything...for a price. If HD doesn't make a part to solve this there may very well be some after market part that solves this problem. In any case your dealer should be able to come up with something.
You can buy an exstension about a 11/2 long for the peg mount.. To reposition the peg, take of the clip holding the pin in, tap out the pin, pull peg off, there will be a steel clip washer fall out, this steel clip keeps tension on the peg so be sure to put it back when reinstalling. In side the peg mount you will see a allen socket, move peg holder to where you want it and tighten the allen bolt. then reinstall the clip and peg.
How much space do you need to come out so peg will fold straight up ?? Measure this. Take peg bracket off and put spacer (bushing) between bracket and frame. Get longer allen bolt. And re tighten back on. Wouldnt hurt to use a drop of lock tite too.
