Default clutch grip

Returning from a deployment in a few says and plan to put some Todds Cycle 10" mini apes on my Slim.

Watched a few vids on bar swap. I like the stock grips and want to keep them. But its unclear to me if the clutch side will come off with out destroying it. Most vids the tech cuts it off.

Curious what anyone else experienced.

Thanks

Just be careful with the cardboard piece to slide in the brake ckt. to keep from breaking the switch. (Right grip.)

Might be able to get the clutch side off without destroying it.
Been so long since I did mine, I forgot.

You may get lucky and get it off without causing too much carnage, and if you don't, a set of aftermarket OE style grips cost about fifteen bucks...

At the shop I usually have plenty of stock grips around. In order to save time when doing bars on bikes where the stock grips are to be retained (rare), we just cut it off and install an undamaged 'new take-off'.

Depends on the grip. Some grips use a couple of grub screws to hold them on and other grips require grip glue.

My clutch grip kept breaking lose so I removed the thing, used sand paper to rough up the surface on the bar and used so much grip glue that it was coming out when I slid the grip on. I'd rather cut the grip off than have it come off at 80 mph. That is just me though.

My Slim had aftermarket grips on it when I bought it. I recently swapped them out for some new HD brand grips.

Neither grip required glue when I reinstalled. They are held in place by the control housings.

The Kuryakyn clutch side I pulled off had been glued... I sprayed a little WD-40 in and it slid right off.

After I unscrewed the "housing", the grip slid off. I didn't see that it was glued on at all. The shape of the end of the grip is what was holding it in the groove of the housing.

+1 that's how it is on late models. Good move by the MOCO I reckon.
Now they're worth keeping even if you change them, cause they didn't get destroyed.
