I am having a hard time finding a fairing that I like that will fit my bike. I've got a 2001 FSXTDI and really don't like the batwing and am not super fond of the Arlen Ness. The one I found that I like the most is the Memphis Shades Gauntlet fairing, which apparently only fits Dynas and Sportsters. Are there any recommendations here? Thanks!
I'm not a fan of regular windshields (just not into the look). The Memphis shades fairings not named batwing say they fit dynas, sportsters and streets. Would I need special mounting brackets to mount the Gauntlet? I guess I question whether I can use it or not because the website says it's specific to those bikes. Thanks again.
I like cruising at 80-90 on my Deuce but you really need quite a bit of coverage to keep the wind under control at that speed for hours on end.
I wanted an extremely lightweight full coverage fairing that would not weigh down the front forks with weight and affect the handling. It needed to be sleek looking to match the bike's lines. It needed a recurve to keep the wind off my helmet and yet be "low enough to see over."
After five attempts using a Windvest and several shields from Memphis Slim I finally took a National Cycle F15 "touring "windshield and color matched it with plastic paint inside the shield and some custom made brackets to mount it exactly where it added stability and killed turbulence (it took a dozen "test" brackets to fit it just right).
It looks OK to me. Doesn't affect handling at all except to add stability at high speed. Definitely comfortable as heck at 80-90. Very much like a fairing except no weight to speak of.
Just for an idea. Not saying I have all the answers. But sometimes "they just don't make what you want!"
So make it yourself.
I had a guy accuse me of "buying factory add-ons" like the shield. So I guess it looks pretty authentic. Sure works better than anything the factory makes...
The Deuce forks are 41mm like lots of other Softails & the yokes are the same width at about 9 3/4" between fork tube centres... so in theory any fairing to fit, say, a Softail Standard should also fit your bike.
