Last guy I saw doing the spacer/end mount I had to dodge his shifter flying at my head at 75 mph.
I have this already. This is the way it was before my current setup but I wanted to push it out more as the cover was hitting my foot. Seems like it may be a failed experiment.

Is there a little bit of the shaft sticking out on the inside arm?

No the plastic "spacer" Is all the way on. There is no space left for the shift to go on further.

If you insist then you might try a spring loaded spacer.

Use a belt sander and shave the spacer down until the shifter fits

Thought of this as well. Would a piece of piping similar to PVC or metal the correct diameter accomplish the same thing?

I still wonder if you have the wrong spacer. I will be home in an hour and will measure mine. The Softail spacers are longer and do not require the use of the stock black spacer/ seal. Because of the fact that the shifter will not go on far enough with the spacer and black peice as well as the fact that it goes on too far when only using the new spacer....it seems you have the wrong spacer. I have been down this road and ended up using a spacer from Carl Miles, it worked perfectly.

Just because I told you that I would....measured the spacer, it seems to be exactly 1". Does not use the stock black peice.
