Updated with more pictures and measurements.

I'm guessing a spacer of some kind is required so as not to have the shifter rubbing against the O-ring?

Just wondering if a washer of some kind would work?

Lines up perfectly flush

I measured my spacer and it was almost exactly an inch

Then it should work with only a toe shifter if you leave out the stock black peice

But would that be bad for the Oring?

You have the correct Kury spacer. Just take off the black plastic spacer if the bolt is not going thru the relieved area on the shaft. It won't come off as long as the bolt is in that tapered area. Mine sticks out a little too. This is not critical stuff !!!

Its a brand new bike that cost me a good chuck of change and after my last bike that was nothing but problem I just want to make sure I'm not going to leave something small that is going to royally screw me down the road.

But I also like having the extra shifter on there in case I have a failure of the toe shifter. I really like the way it is setup now but just want to make sure not having a spacer wont mess up that Oring since Im guessing its there for a reason.

The black peice is there when stock, it is a spacer and also rides against the o ring to hold lube in the housing that the shifter shaft runs through. When you remove the heel shifter and use a spacer, the spacer takes the place and serves the function of the black peice. Quit over thinking crap and take the stupid black peice off or put your heel shifter back on. Its not rocket science!

Had same situation with my Drag Specialties shifter. It WILL work its way off !

Take the shifter in to a machine shop and have them drill, tap, and insert a set screw for you.

If you have a set of verniers, its easy to locate the position. You want the set screw to extend into the channel that is machined into the shaft now. The machine shop might not even charge for this little job. Mine didn't. They'll probably do it while you wait. You may have time to smoke a cigarette but don't, they're bad for you.

To assemble, press the shifter onto the shaft using a "C" clamp. Don't go nuts, this is just to hold the shifter firmly into position as you work, nothing more. Be SURE TO TIGHTEN THE SHIFTER CLAMP BOLT FIRST AND THE SET SCREW LAST ! Put a touch of blue Loctite on the set screw, "of course", nip it in, and you'll be good as gold. The shaft will remain slightly inset but the assembly, done this way, is rock solid with no working loose.

Happy Riding.

Simple job, hell it took longer to write out than to do, (machine shop excepted).

Thanks I actually happened upon another spacer (from one of the 20 or so parts boxes I have laying around) The lever still hangs off the shaft by about 1mm but this is much better then the previous spacer which I was going to sand down. I am now all set. Thanks again for everyones input.
