Default Question about stock pipes...

I've heard that you can knock out the inside of the stock pipes to make them louder.

Question: If you do this, can you knock out only some of the stock baffles to make it a bit louder or do you have to completely gut it?

I wouldn't do it on your new '07..

The only posts I've seen by folks that punched out stock pipes were guys that ended up shopping for a new exhaust system afterwards.

Asked a HD service guy that yesterday for my '07 FatBoy. He said it would mess it up because of the F/I. So I will save up and get some slip-ons. He said it don't have to be remaped for SE slip-ons but he didn't know about the other brands.

I knocked the plug out of my 07 Deluex, it ran OK, no poping or backing firing, gained a little sound. I since then placed a set of VH staggered on it, big difference. I think the Harley shop will tell you all the cons to get your buck.

I ran an 1 3/4 hole saw all the way through my stock baffles a long time ago. Bike runs great, sounds great. I get lots of compliments on the sound. It sounds very much like my brothers older SE fishtail slip ons, a little less sharp & a little louder. At first, I just pulled the complete baffles. Sound like it was under water, blubbered & echoed in the chambers bad. They are stock dual mufflers on a 05 Springer Classic.

A freindgot a 07 street bob used had 2600 miles on it ,he came out to show it to me,it had a good deep sound we got looking and someone had knocked out the plugs in the mufflers. He went back to the dealer and showed them they said that they would replace the mufflers,They it would not hurt the motor that it we adj for the the only thing wrong is that there is no epa warr on the mufflers.
they hooked the bike up to a laptop the bike ck out great with the plugs knocked only,SOUNDS GREAT.
