I will be doing everything except going into the engine, transmission or primary as that is still under warranty.

You will need both. There are some bolts (battery connectors) that are metric but most of the bike's bolts are SAE. I personally do all of my own wrenching on my bike and my primary sets of tools are the Craftsman 164 piece set and my old Popular Mechanics (Wal-Mart Craftsman) 90 piece tool set. I do have many other special sized wrenches and sockets for specific jobs such as the 15/16" for the axle and the 1 1/8" for the clutch hub but the majority of my work is with the generic tool sets. Additionally get yourself a couple of good torque wrenches. Brand does matter on torque wrenches as they are precision calibrated tools. I use 3 ranges in/lb, 10-150 ft/lb and 40-250 ft/lb torque wrenches depending upon what the torque value required is. An adapter set is a great purchase as well so that you can use your 1/2" drive torque wrench on your 3/8" drive sockets or other combinations. Hope this helps, cheers.
