Thanks for the comments about the Fat Boy - it sounds like it will fit the bill.

On the other hand, I must admit that the comments about being certain that I can handle the bike properly and that my health is able to handle it as well is very sound advice - and I thank you all for it.

I'd love to get the bike (even if it's blue ), but it seems that I need to know that I can handle it before doing anything.

I've taken some rehab, feel better, but I know I'm not 100%, and frankly will never be that way again. 4 arm surgeries will do that, not to mention that I'm old enough to have seen others in this situation over the years, and it doesn't always work out well - especially if you deny reality.

I'm still torn about buying the bike, especially at the great price I've been offered, but I think for now I need to step back and take a deep breath before moving forward.

Thanks for the honest comments - that's why I'm a member here - it's hard to hear the truth, but if your friends won't tell it to you, who will?

Thanks

OP, only you can judge whether you are going to be OK for riding.

The one thing I will say is that the Fat Boy is a very easy bike to ride. I upgraded from a 2014 Superlow Sportster to the Fat Boy. I was amazed at how much easier the Fat Boy was to handle as compared to the Sportster (which was a very good bike by the way; not knocking my old Sportie.) The Fat Boy combines superb balance with a nice low center of gravity which makes it a joy to handle and ride.

I am not a big guy myself and I appreciate the easy handling of the Fat Boy. But only you can judge whether you are up to riding and I hope that you are!

Is a sidecar an option to keep you in the wind? I ask because while I have driven a Tri Glide and know that there is a certain amount of arm strength required to turn them, I've never ridden a bike with a sidecar and have no idea if they're easier, harder or the same to handle as a trike.

Still waiting for mine to arrive. Hopefully a new seat will not be the first thing to replace.

I think you're doing the right thing. I will say that the bike I learned on was a Shadow VLX600 and it was a GREAT little bike to learn the basics......I moved up to the Fatboy and after a few weeks I realized I should have went straight to the Fatboy.....that's how easy it is to ride. Maybe rent one for the weekend? Some dealerships allow that.

May not be anything your interested in since it isn't the same as riding but what about one of the Polaris Slingshots? I think they have power steering so you would be able to handle it a bit better?

[QUOTE=bfd70;15689964]You only need to know 2 things:
1. All men will be jealous of you
2. All time not spent riding will be spent having ladies throw themselves at you.

I ride a Fatboy, and at 75 years old the only women that throw themselves was one that tripped on her "walker"
