That's a perty Heritage indeed. It's smart that your dumping all fluids right away. It's always best to start with a clean canvas so to speak and being a repo, you have to assume the bike may have been neglected at best. It's your call as to what oil brands to use. Synthetic although more $$ is a preferred way to go with the engine. Personally, I use different colored fluids in all three holes in case of leaks. This way you'll know if it's engine, transmission or primary case. A decent 20w-50 for the engine, I use Bel-ray red for the transmission and Formula + dino oil(non-synthetic) in the primary. As long as it's the proper weights and it's bike oils you really can't go wrong. Harley's are durable pieces of machinery. As long as you follow some sort of maintenance schedule you'll be just fine. Brand name(s) are perty much personal preference. Just my .02 anyways. I can't help with the computer chip deal. My Heritage is carbed and I don't know **** about FI engines. Maybe someone else will chime in that's more educated with that. Btw, if you don't already have one, do yourself a favor and pick up a HD factory service manual. They are worth their weight in gold. Anyways.......Have fun and many enjoyable and safe miles to ya!

Ditto on the service manual and welcome aboard. Buying all HD products is juts promo hype like most products do by the way. Find a good indy too. wether you use em much or not, their experience level (like this forum) comes in real handy. Ride safe.

Welcome and that's a nice bike, you'll love it....

As mentioned service manual (& parts manual) is golden if doing you're own work.

May I make a suggestion....? If you use the search feature on this forum, you will have more reading than time in the day, for your basic questions like what fluids, basic EFI questions, and just about anything else that pops into your mind...

It always helps to get the general, oft repeated, info from a search (there's tons of info on basic questions). Then if you don't find your answer, it allows you ask more specific, technical questions on the topic...

Good luck, enjoy the ride....

Look behind the football air cleaner cover and if you see just the filter ( no plastic crap) you most likely have a free flow filter that's part of a stage 1. You might look under the seat for a a stage 1 ECM tuning module that would also be part of a stage 1 upgrade. If the ECM was just flashed and no module,, i dont know how you would tell. Maybe someone else will chime in about that. If it runs good, the plugs look good, and the pipes arent blued to bad, your probably good to go.

A dang fine looking ride! I'm with the others. A good quality oil. I use redline in the tranny, because I keep it on hand for my drag race car, and I know it works. Brad Penn in the motor, again because I keep a lot on hand.

That year has a couple known issues that are fairly easy to deal with for someone such as yourself that wrenches. There's the spring loaded cam chain tensioners that is a maintenance item. I would suggest looking into that fairly soon to avoid trouble.

There's also the plastic fuel pressure regulator housing inside the tank. Prone to failure. That item is the only thing that has left me semi stranded. A company called Trask makes an aluminum housing. If you get into the tank to change the fuel filter, do yourself a favor and swap that piece out.

Then, just ride and enjoy!
