I rode about325 milesoneday lastyear.. pullin onto the off ramp I hit the clutch and kicked down for 4th gear, didnt hear the "clack" I was used too.. Just hit the floor board.. the shifter arm that bolts to the tranny stripped out..(spline) there we were 3 hours from home, stuck in 5th gear, with a fully loaded dresser, in the dark.. on a sunday. I figured oh well.. and wound it up real hard and slipped the clutch to get it movin, had to pull the clutch in 2 times everytime to get it goin.. but got up to speed.. what along ride..anyways, the clack is a noise that I wanna hear.

Yeah I think it is pretty normal. My 07 did it from the second I rode it out of the showroom. I suggest an 80gb ipod video and some headphones under the helmet... the bike is next to silent after a good song kicks in 
... exhaust aside! I woudlnt worry about it... especially not during the warranty period.

When I start up and engage 1st gear on my 07 Heritage, I found if I rock it, (roll forward a touch it usually dropped into 1st sometimes with hardly any "clank" at all. However usuallyit clanks and I put it down to cog alignment.Sounds heavy duty to me. Another trial once riding is to give it a bit more rpm and change faster. Think of riding it like a Jap bike somewhatand not a two wheeled tractor which they are.
