Understanding where the service tech cam 'guru' may be coming from, the TC88 is not supposed to chew up it's tensioners in 16,000 miles regardless. I'd suspect the prior owner has disregarded the oil change intervals, or the bike actually has more mileage than shown. That kind of repair that early on just doesn't make sense. Btw, LXT...congrats in advance. It's gonna be a special Christmas around the homestead for you folks..
I keep reading similar crap about Evo's; "Ooooh you have to change the tappets and blocks in an Evo every 45,000 miles." Who dreams up this nonsense???
I dreamed up that "nonsense" after I had a lifter fail at 46,000 miles on mine. Well, the lifters anyway, I'm still running the original blocks at 116,000 miles.

Yeah I think the oil changes may play a big role in tensioner wear, I know a lot of people though that have had issues ranging anywhere from 5k to 20k, one acquaintance is an oil changing fool & his went at 12k +/-. The miles I whole heartedly believe are right (know the previous owner). anyway got her all fixed & started on xmas eve. will tweak as needed this week.
thanks for the congrats! still waiting for the arrival, my daughter was due on the 23rd - any day now?

But I think it's pretty safe to say that just because one lifter failed somewhere the rest of us don't need to run out and buy new lifters, eh.
Well, got her all adjusted up & took a short ride yesterday (lil chilly in PA) , she runs really good, I'm happy so far! figure I`ll put 100 +/- miles on her & do an oil change - cant really find anything on the recommended oil change after a cam chest re-do? anybody have any thoughts on that?
