Default Swapping Motors Question

I have a co worker who apparently has an opportunity to buy a 2013 softail on the cheap. The one hiccup is that the bike is in need of a new motor. He's looking at motors on ebay (any better places to look?) and the question is could he replace to 103b with a 96b? What hurdles would we face going this route if it's possible? Thanks in advance guys!

Unless there a hole in the cases, why not fix whatever is wrong with it or rebuild it?

I went from 96 to 103HO, touring frame though with no issues....the "B" should bolt up with no issues, He should look for a 14 to het the HO version. I am glad I did.

Really, what is wrong with the old motor? Harley offers long and short blocks pretty cheap.

Curious to know what is wrong... I misread the first post, he wants to go to a smaller motor which I wouldn't do. I would go to a 14 or 15...
