I like the "less stinky" oils... Redline 75W-90 has a strong odor...[:-] But does a damn good job on the tranny.
hehehe.. my basement garage knows all too well.. redline just plain stinks! Like thick cherry slushy syrup.
vertigo14,
I'm using M1 Vtwin, Redline Shockproof Heavy in the trans, and plain ole Formula+ HD fluid in the primary.. Like others have said, the change interval is the key with any of the brands.
Also, I have to say I was convinced when I did my last oil change when I bled the crank using this scavenger kit.. http://www.roguechopper.com/ Not to steal the topic or anything but it's also an easy way to get all the old contaminated oil out of the engine crankcase when you drop the oil. It helps get rid of ALL the old oil, not just what's hanging out in the oil-tank.
Hey Babs that device is pretty darn cool, will look into getting one. My syn3 was extreamly dirty after 700miles after the 1k dealer service. So I changed it out with my own oil (AMS). Been about 1000k miles since that change and fluid a pretty dirty again, most likely cause I reused the 1k filter and didnt totaly flush out the old syn3 fluid. Heh yeah yeah.. reused the filter but the filter only had 700miles on it :P still had old oil in it...
You can literally see when the old oil finally purges and the new oil starts coming through.. takes almost but not quite a quart worth.. So its as if there's almost a quart of old oil that never gets changed by the standard method.. But it's black like tar, then changes color to nice honey-like new oil.. at that point, shut off the engine, fill back up to the right level, and you're off for a test ride.. check once more and you're good to go. It's worth it to help keep that quart of old oil from contaminating your new oil. ... Oh, and make SURE you get your hose passed the 'barb' on the return line or it will shoot off and you'll make a "ahem" big mess.
