Regarding cleaning out the build-up on top of the pistons....999 of of 1000, using Seafoam will work, to a degree...depends on how much build up there is.
We don't do that, the reason is, it is not often, but it is possible for a big enough piece to break loose that then gets caught between the valve and valve seat, causing damage.
