Default Big Radius and PCIII USB - Need Help !

Howdy,

The courier just dropped off my Vance and Hines Big Radius Exhaust and Power Commander III USB. The Power Commander apparently has the O2 Sensor eliminator but I bought the exhaust for the 07 model (because I have an 07 Fatboy) so what I need to know is :

1) Should I run the O2 Sensor or Not?
2) If not should I still screw the O2 sensor into the exhaust
3) If I shouldn't use the O2 sensor at all, what should I block the hole in the exhaust with?

If anybody has any tips on mounting the Power Commander on the 07 Fatboy it would be greatly appreciated as I will be attempting to install these on the weekend.

Story of my life I buy something and a second later there is something better out. Now the big question is should I sell the PCIIIUSB and buy the PCIIIEX before I open the box / install it?

Are there performance advantages to the EX ? If it is only a LEGAL matter I really couldn't care less (don't have much respect for any politician I have seen in power the last 35 years or so) but if there are performance advantages of the EX then I would consider putting that on instead. Basically if I am going to end up with the same HP with either I am happy to keep what I got

Excuse my ignorance but I wanna try and do all this right the first time.

DeanO

Definately KEEP the PCIII USB!!!

Use the 02 Sensor Eliminators!!

Plug your exhaust holes with Oil Drain Plugs found at your local auto store before you install your exhaust pipes. You can run a search on this website for the exact size of the plug. Very cheap!

The O2 sensors complete the fuel injection system and make it a "closed loop" instead of "open loop" system. The difference is that instead of sensing demand (open loop) and regulating fuel based on that, it senses demand and the fuel/oxygen balance coming out of the exhaust (closed loop) and regulates fuel and air based on the overall system.

A closed loop fuel injection system is MUCH BETTER than taking out the O2 sensors and making it into an open loop. If the PC is not designed for your bike, do the right thing and get the one you need. Plain and simple; saving a few bucks may be fine now, but you will deal with headaches from it not running right over the long run.

Before you do anything, best advice I have is do your research.

I think Dinger has the best advice so far. Keep the PC III USB and use the O2 sensor elimianators.

Hope you have better luck with it than a lot of others have had.

I would leave the O2 sensors in. If you have to take it in for warranty you can take the pcIII off and use the stock ecm.

Hi there,

The one I bought is the correct one for an 07 softtail. It's just that when I heard about the PCIII EX I thought that was the better one for my bike. I have been told by two people now that the one I have is the better one.

I will post the email I got from FUELMOTO off eBay when I asked if I should exchange mine (which is still in box unopened for the EX)

---- QUOTE BELOW

"Hello, the Power Commander EX is a version that is compliant with California emissions. This unit does not allow tuning of the crucial part throttle, cruise range or low speed areas. The Power Commander III USB is far more adustable and is a superior tuning module."

---- QUOTE ABOVE

Well considering two people have told me the same thing I am now somewhat relieved. The PCIII USB is going on tomorrow so that's that I guess. Now all I have to do is figure out how to do it ! Should be fun for a novice like me.

Regards,
Dean
