Default replacing Compensator sprocket

recently i have been noticing my Compensator sprocket is beginning to give out on my 2007 night train and my research has come up with the screamin eagle compensator is a big improvement over my stock compensator which has been replaced once in 2009 for another stock unit. i plan on doing the install my self and would like to know the best place and price to pick up one of these compensator sprockets. i also need the rotor cap as well. along with the sprocket and rotor i will be installing a 30t front drive sprocket and belt. my final question is what tools and size tools will i be needing to complete this install? any info will help thanks.

I did not replace my compensator but just the 30 tooth pulley. My compensator looks great barely any wear. As far as tools, you'll need a sprocket holder, and sprocket nut wrench, I got both from George's tools. You'll need Locktite 271 and Locktite 243. Since your in there get gasket kit 25700337 it's an inner primary kit with a black gasket. I also did the inner primary bearing as it's cheap and your in there so might as well do that too.

As for removal, the primary cover, compensator and clutch is pretty easy, clutch nut is reverse thread, so tighten to loosen. The two hardest bolts were the starter bolts because the oil tank is in the way. I loosened the oil tank and used a long 1/4" Allan with a 6 inch extension it's a bit of PITA but I got it. Once there off you can pull the inner primary.

As for the pulley nut, it was a bear to remove. You need either a real good impact gun with good air pressure or a real strong breaker bar which I used with a 4 foot cheater and that got it. My 1/2 inch impact gun did nothing.

Do you have a manual? If you plan on doing the repair yourself, go buy one. DOn't buy a Haynes manual or CHiltons. Purchase the FSM from HD. Best money you'll ever spend.

I just replaced the rotor and stator on my '07 Electraglide UC and now I'm facing a compensator replacement. Most likely, I'm going to go with a Baker unit.

I actually just did this. This video really helped me.

I used a little heat (map gas) when removing the sprocket nut.

Sprocket nut size is 2 1/4". You will also need 1 3/16" for clutch nut which is reverse thread.

Make sure you have a torque wrench when putting it all back together.

I am debating about the baker unit but the spring pack still looks undersized and not able to last along time. The first time my compensator went out the spring pack wore out causing excess wear and play.

You're likely going to want a manual unless you found a write up on exactly how to do it with torque specs.

I got the needed tools from heartland products and they all did what they were intended to do. I got on the sprocket nut with a 1/2" air impact with good power and it wouldn't budge. Eventually my buddy grabbed the socket and twisted on it while I hit it with the impact and it came loose. You may want to buy a new sprocket nut in case you have to drill it off. If you don't end up having to, at least you can put a new one on for peace of mind.

Interesting. Every post I've read here swears by the Baker units. As a matter of fact, I just bought the compensator and rotor online today.

I lucked out. Mine when bad. I had an extended service plan on my 2009 Fatboy. They not only replaced the compensator, but the a whole new clutch. The starter ring gear was toast, but the did the whole clutch under the service contract. They also found awake **** and replaced that also. All for $50 bucks.
I also read a few not so good reviews about the Baker compensator. I was really torn until I found HD would do the job for $50 bucks.
Good luck
