Got an Avon Cobra whitewall, 150/80B16 on my rear (2010 FLSTN)..... "looks" like it's wobbling side to side, but feels like it rides just fine. Has me a bit creeped out.
Almost appears as if the edges of the tire are NOT consistent. It's wearing just fine. At low speed I get some drift, but I know that's because of my 21" front wheel. Seems to track fine at 55 and up.
Should I just replace the thing, only has like 600 miles on it, but I didn't plan on dying for like another 20 years.....
Anyone have a similar issue with Avon's or any other brand of tire? What was the fix, or your end result/decision?
If it's wearing evenly and the ride seems to be fine I would think the tire is OK.
However if I was in your place, I'd pull the wheel and replace the tire.
No matter if the tire is fine or not, I would always be worrying about it which is not worth the $200 to replace the tire.
Also, I would contact Avon and file a complaint.
You might just get a refund.
HD has me talked into a Dunlop American elite in the stock MU85-16 size, only 10mm less width, hardly noticeable, and in stock..... They said they are going to dismount and remount my Avon to see if it just didn't set right on the bead. Hopefully that's it, and I can walk /ride out $50 poorer instead of $300 poorer!
Can you put up your rear tire off the ground, and then measure it to the swing arm as you spin the wheel. See it its moving in and out a little .. It could be a bent rim.. Just my 2cts
